What Does Good Health Really Mean?
The English word “health” comes from the old English word hale, meaning “wholeness, a person who is whole, sound of mind and well.” Health, according to the World Health Organization, is “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity. A variety of definitions have been used for different purposes over time.
Achieving and maintaining health is an ongoing process. Health can be promoted by encouraging healthful activities. Such as a balanced diet, regular exercise, adequate sleep, stress management, social activities, friends, and family. To maintain good health everyone should avoid activities like smoking, excessive stress, and taking excessive alcohol.
Physical fitness is not the sole basis of being healthy. Healthy person means being mentally, physically, and emotionally healthy. Everyone wants a healthy lifestyle. Healthy lifestyle can help us prevent different types of diseases.
Key to maintaining good health is eating a balanced diet, exercising, and getting plenty of rest and good adequate sleep, and all know it.
1. Balanced Diet:
Have a healthy diet, which is important to maintain one’s personal health. It includes a variety of foods which provide nutrients to the body. Our body needs more than 40 different nutrients for good health. There is not one single source for them. Daily food selection should include a balance of good carbs, protein, fruits, veggies, and dairy products. Such nutrients provide the body with energy and keep it running well.
Nutrition:
Nutrition is the biochemical and physiological process by which an organism uses food to support its life. It helps build and strengthen bones, muscles, and tendons and also regulate body processes. Eat moderate portions, and maintain a healthy and balanced diet. Do not eliminate certain foods. Our bodies require diverse nutrition. Water is essential for growth, reproduction, and good health. Water helps not only to hydrate, but to aid in blood circulation, the removal of toxins from our bodies and in the regulation of our body temperatures.
Healthy food choices can lower one’s risk of heart disease, develop some types of cancer, and maintain weight of the body within a healthy range.
Stay away from cokes and other sugary sodas. Sugar is a source of empty calories that can use up important vitamins and minerals for the body. Avoid too much caffeine. Caffeine is a mildly addictive drug that can affect your ability to sleep and focus while also affecting such bodily functions as muscle function and the cleansing of waste products.
2. Regular Exercise:
Regular physical exercise is much more essential for good health. Exercise is bodily activity that enhances physical fitness, health, and wellness. It improves the cardiovascular system as well as strengthens bones and muscles. No you do not have to be intense at the gym. But you need to keep as active as possible at your end. You can do some easy exercises like swimming, walking or running in the morning or evening, floor exercises. Do what you are able to maintain properly.
What is important is to maintain the simple exercises regularly. Grant at least 20 to 30 minutes a day to exercise. Make a routine for exercise at least four to five times a week. It can reduce the risks of heart disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, depression, and anxiety. Also it will help growth and improve strength of your body, develop muscles and the cardiovascular system, and weight loss.
The sum of doing a small amount of exercise is healthier than doing nothing.
3. Healthy Sleep / Good Sleep:
Generally it is a state of body and mind. It recurs for a few hours every night (even if it may be during the daytime). During sleep most of the body’s systems are in an anabolic state. In that period of time the nervous system is inactive, the eyes closed, the postural muscles relaxed, and consciousness practically suspended. Sleep helps to restore the immune, nervous, and muscular systems.
Sleep is essential to maintain good health. Good sleep plays a vital role in maintaining mood, memory, and cognitive functions. For the growth and development of children, sleep is most important.
How much sleep do I need? Most adults need 7-9 hours of good quality sleep each night. It varies slightly from person to person. Where, children and teenagers need even more sleep each night. This means not only enough but also a good quality sleep.
A number of health issues are common around the globe.
4. Stress management:
Stress is a state of physical, mental, or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances. It is the feeling of being overwhelmed, unable to overcome mental or emotional pressure. Stress may come from many sources. All stress is not harmful to our health.

Stress management is a way of making changes to life by practicing self-care to prevent stress. Stress can be managed in several ways. The best way of stress management is to address it physically and psychologically. Stress produces physical and mental symptoms like physical health, depression. Stress management provides a number of ways to manage stress, anxiety and maintain well-being.
Find out the reason of stress. Second, find out from which sources it comes. Detecting stress symptoms is important. It will help to assess the stress and manage it accordingly.
