The modern Olympic Games or Olympics are leading international sporting events featuring summer and winter sports competitions. It is one of the biggest sports competitions in the world. Generally it is held every four years alternating between the summer and Winter Olympics every two years in the four-year period. More than 200 nations participate in it. The tradition of Olympic Games comes from Greece. The Greeks first held it at the foot of Mount Olympus. That was almost 3000 years ago. Baron Pierre de Coubertin, a French man, is the father of the modern Olympic Games. He founded the international Olympic committee (IOC) in 1894.
The 2020 Summer Olympics was delayed one year because of the COVID-19 pandemic situation. It is held from July 23 to August 8, 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. Tokyo was the first city in Asia to hold the Summer Games twice. The Games featured 339 events in 33 different sports, encompassing a total of 50 disciplines. There 15 new events within existing sports were also added. I enjoyed some of the 2020 Summer Olympics events on TV. I love the Olympic events so much.
